A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member of the Punjab Assembly has called for former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s portrait to be added to Pakistan’s Rs. 5,000 currency note alongside Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Speaking during a Punjab Assembly session, MPA Arshad Malik said the country’s highest-denomination banknote should carry the images of both leaders. He argued that Nawaz Sharif’s contributions to Pakistan’s development warranted such recognition.

According to Malik, Nawaz Sharif was the leader who steered the country toward progress and economic growth, making him deserving of a place on the national currency.

The remarks were made during the assembly proceedings as the lawmaker put forward his personal proposal. There has been no announcement from the federal government or the State Bank of Pakistan regarding any plan to redesign the Rs. 5,000 note or include additional portraits on it.
