The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has proposed processing complete applications for radio-based service licences within 15 working days under its draft Radio-Based Services (RBS) Regulations, 2026.

The proposed deadline aims to establish a clear timeframe for licence processing and provide greater certainty to organisations seeking approval to operate radio communication services in Pakistan.

The draft regulations cover several services, including Land Mobile Private Networks (LMPN) using very high frequency (VHF), microwave links, Mobile Satellite Applications (MSA), Mobile Satellite Services (MSS), and amateur radio.

These services support communication needs across different sectors and require regulatory authorisation.

The proposed 15-working-day period would apply only to complete applications. Applicants would still need to fulfil the required documentation and other regulatory conditions before their applications could be processed.

The PTA has also invited stakeholders, including existing licensees and relevant organisations, to submit feedback on the draft regulations through a prescribed proforma.

Stakeholders have been asked to identify specific provisions, suggest changes and explain the reasons for their recommendations.

The authority will consider the feedback as part of the process to review the proposed rules before finalising the regulatory framework for radio-based services.
