The rebranding of Pakistan’s merged Ufone-Telenor mobile operation is expected soon after regulatory approval, but the launch date has not yet been confirmed, sources told ProPakistani.

Sources said the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted conditional approval for the rebranding, subject to completion of the required legal formalities. The regulator has not confirmed reports of a September 15 launch event.

The merger has been completed under Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), combining Ufone and Telenor Pakistan’s spectrum, networks and subscriber base into a single operation serving more than 74 million customers.

PTML has proposed replacing the Ufone and Telenor Pakistan brands with the global “e&” identity. Under the PTA’s conditions, PTML must complete the required legal process and notify the regulator before launching commercial or promotional activities under the new brand.

The rebranding had earlier been delayed over legal and corporate governance issues surrounding the approval process.

PTML has yet to officially announce the final brand name, launch date or how the transition will affect Ufone and Telenor customers.
