The government has reduced the petrol price by Rs. 1.60 per litre to Rs. 377.71, while increasing the diesel price by Rs. 1.64 to Rs. 391.75 per litre, according to the latest fuel price update from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
The latest revision follows Wednesday’s changes, when petrol became cheaper by Rs. 2.71 per litre to Rs. 379.31, while diesel increased by Rs. 0.31 to Rs. 390.11 per litre.
The price changes come as Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan (JI) prepares to launch the third phase of its nationwide protest against the petroleum levy on Friday. The party has announced sit-ins across districts in the country.
The government currently collects Rs. 114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs. 100 per litre on diesel.
In early September, the government and JI agreed to establish committees to recommend measures for reducing the petroleum levy. However, the party has announced another round of protests over what it says is a failure to fulfil those commitments.
Since daily fuel price revisions began on July 18, petrol has increased by Rs. 67 per litre, while diesel has risen by Rs. 68.45 per litre, according to the available price record.
