The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has entered into a partnership with the UK’s MOBILIST program to attract private capital for sustainable development and climate-related projects in Pakistan.
The partnership will focus on using Pakistan’s capital market to help businesses raise funds for projects linked to sustainability, climate transition and broader development goals.
MOBILIST is a UK development finance program that supports investment products listed on public markets in emerging and developing economies. It combines investment with technical and advisory support to help mobilize private-sector funding.
Under the agreement, MOBILIST will engage with companies listed or seeking to list on PSX, as well as market intermediaries, to identify potential projects and financial products that could receive support.
The program can provide equity funding, technical assistance and advisory services to help companies prepare for initial public offerings (IPOs) and develop new products for listing on PSX.
Alison Blackburne, Deputy High Commissioner Karachi, said the UK wants to help direct private investment toward businesses addressing climate and development challenges in emerging markets such as Pakistan.
She pointed to the Parwaaz Green Action Bond as an example of how development finance can work through public markets to attract private investment.
PSX Managing Director and CEO Farrukh H. Sabzwari said the partnership would give eligible businesses access to capital, technical support and advisory services as they move toward the stock market.
He said the initiative could bring more sustainable businesses to the public market while helping companies finance projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and net-zero targets.
The partnership is expected to expand opportunities for Pakistani businesses to raise capital through PSX while supporting the country’s wider sustainability and climate objectives.
