Pakistan’s new Auto Policy 2026-31 is nearing final approval, but the government will hold another meeting before it can be announced.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a fresh meeting on the policy for Wednesday, with the prime minister expected to decide whether to approve the proposal or seek further changes, sources said.

A committee led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Dar had already given the policy in-principle approval a few weeks ago. The proposal is currently with the Secretary Industries and Production and the Power Division.

However, sources said proposals circulating in the market are based on an earlier draft and should not be treated as the final version of the new policy.

The government also plans to consult the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before announcing the policy.

The Auto Policy 2026-31 will be implemented only after approval from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the federal cabinet, sources added.
