The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved financial support for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to help settle outstanding employee-related payments, including salaries, pensions, and medical expenses.
The decision was taken during an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb after reviewing a summary submitted by the Ministry of Defence concerning the financial requirements of PIA Holding Company Limited.
Out of a proposed allocation of Rs. 5.985 billion, the committee approved funding aimed at clearing pending employee obligations to ease operational pressures facing the national carrier.
The ECC also directed authorities to take up the matter of payments to the National Insurance Company Limited with the relevant revenue authorities for adjustment in accordance with audit recommendations.
PIA has faced persistent financial challenges in recent years, requiring repeated government support to meet operational and staff-related commitments. Officials said the latest approval is intended to ensure continuity of payments while broader restructuring efforts for the airline continue.
