Petrol pump owners have called off their planned nationwide strike after reaching an understanding with the federal government, ensuring fuel stations across Pakistan will remain operational.

The decision was announced on Wednesday after talks between the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association, the Petroleum Dealers Association, and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.

Petroleum dealers had earlier announced a 24-hour nationwide shutdown of petrol pumps from 6 a.m. on Thursday to 6 a.m. on Friday to protest the government’s proposed daily revision of petroleum product prices.

Following the meeting, the minister said the government had agreed to consult all stakeholders before making any decision on dealers’ margins. He added that a summary on the proposed margin revision would be submitted to the federal cabinet for consideration.

Malik also said the government would revisit the proposed daily fuel pricing mechanism in consultation with petroleum sector representatives after two weeks.

With the strike postponed, petrol pumps will continue normal operations while discussions between the government and petroleum dealers continue over the proposed pricing framework.
