Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has announced the rollout of a new digital verification mechanism for pensioners, enabling identity checks through facial recognition technology instead of mandatory bank visits.
The system is being implemented in coordination with NADRA’s digital identity framework, including the Pak ID mobile application, and will allow pensioners to complete their “proof of life” verification remotely using biometric facial authentication.
Under the current process, pensioners are required to physically appear at banks at regular intervals to confirm their status for continued pension payments. The new facility is designed to replace this manual requirement with a secure digital alternative linked to NADRA’s national database.
Officials say the initiative aims to reduce inconvenience for elderly pensioners, cut unnecessary bank visits, and streamline the verification process through automated digital authentication.
Once fully deployed, pensioners will be able to verify their identity from home via mobile devices, with real-time confirmation integrated into the banking and pension disbursement system.
