Electricity consumers in Pakistan could face higher bills this winter as fuel price adjustments are expected to increase by two to three times during December, January, and February.

Sources said fuel price adjustments could rise sharply over the three months due to higher costs of LNG, coal, and other fuels used for power generation.

The increase could add to the financial burden on consumers as electricity generation becomes more expensive during the winter season.

Higher Fuel Costs Raise Electricity Bill Concerns

Limited domestic gas supplies could create additional problems for power plants, as local gas availability is already insufficient to meet household demand during winter.

Power generation from hydropower plants is also expected to remain significantly lower during the season. This could force electricity producers to rely more heavily on expensive imported fuels to meet demand.

Higher international prices of LNG and other fuels could further increase the cost of electricity generation and push fuel price adjustments upward.

Sources said authorities had previously tried to limit the impact of rising generation costs through measures that included load management of up to two hours.

However, international fuel prices have increased substantially, raising concerns about higher adjustments in the coming months.

If the expected increase materializes, consumers could face significantly higher electricity bills during December, January, and February.
