The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology has called on the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication to engage with Apple and encourage the company to establish an official presence in Pakistan.

During the committee meeting, Chairman Syed Amin Ul Haque questioned why Apple has yet to enter Pakistan despite expanding into regional markets such as India and Bangladesh.

“If Apple can operate in India and Bangladesh, why can’t it come to Pakistan?” he asked, directing the ministry to initiate discussions with the U.S. technology giant.

Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja told the committee that premium smartphones, including Apple’s iPhones and Google’s Pixel devices, are currently imported into Pakistan and are subject to import duties and taxes.

The committee chairman noted that several global mobile phone brands, including Samsung and Nokia, already have a presence in Pakistan and said Apple should also be encouraged to invest in the local market.

The discussion took place as lawmakers reviewed Pakistan’s mobile phone industry and explored ways to attract more global technology companies while improving consumer access to smartphones.
