More than 7.5 million citizens have received benefits under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme since its launch on September 15, as the government continues providing petrol subsidies to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engines up to 800cc.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the progress of the scheme and directed relevant departments to continue facilitating eligible citizens.

Officials informed the meeting that more than 8.4 million people have registered for the subsidy. Since the scheme began, 12.2 million tokens have been issued, of which 10.3 million have already been utilized.

The scheme has now entered its third week. Citizens who received the subsidy during the first two weeks are eligible to receive the relief again for the coming week.

The subsidy is currently available across 129 districts, with all petrol pumps providing the facility to eligible consumers.

The government has also established a 24-hour call center to assist citizens and petrol station operators with the scheme. The Prime Minister’s Office Public Affairs Unit and elected public representatives are also helping people complete the registration process.

Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the departments and officials involved in implementing the program and said the database developed through the initiative could be used for other relief programs in the future.
