More than 1 million registrations have been recorded under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, while the number of subsidy tokens issued has crossed 800,000 nationwide, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication said.

The ministry said its 24-hour control room is tracking the scheme’s progress in real time, including registrations, token issuance and redemption.

Punjab and Islamabad currently account for the highest number of redeemed fuel subsidy tokens.

The scheme provides fuel assistance to eligible owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc. It covers beneficiaries across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Registration through SMS to 9771 is now free after the government directed telecom operators to remove the Rs1.40 charge previously imposed on the messages.

Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the decision was taken on the instructions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
