The Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, has officially announced that the moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH was not sighted.
According to a notification issued from Islamabad following a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held in Lahore, the committee concluded that no credible moon sighting reports were received for the start of the new Islamic month.
As a result, the federal government has declared that 1st Muharram 1448 AH will commence from Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The notification, issued under reference No. F.2(3)HD(Q)/2019, will be published in the next edition of the Gazette of Pakistan.
It was signed by Dr. Shahid Ur Rehman, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.
The announcement marks the formal schedule for the beginning of the Islamic New Year period in Pakistan, observed with religious significance across the country.
