The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a fresh warning over the rising threat of phishing attacks and online fraud, urging internet users to stay vigilant against attempts to steal personal and financial information.
In its advisory, the regulator said cybercriminals are increasingly using fake emails, text messages, phone calls, and fraudulent job advertisements to target people across the country.
According to PTA, scammers often impersonate well-known companies and organisations by using their names, logos, and branding to appear credible. It said fraudsters may try to obtain money, photographs, location details, or other sensitive information from victims under different pretexts.
The authority warned that such deceptive tactics are aimed at gaining access to personal data and financial resources.
PTA advised the public to be cautious when receiving unexpected communications, especially those that create urgency or ask for confidential information. It urged users to verify the authenticity of emails, messages, and phone calls before responding or taking any action.
The regulator also recommended the use of strong and unique passwords, activation of two-factor authentication, and reporting suspicious communications through official channels.
It stressed that individuals should never share one-time passwords, PINs, passwords, banking information, or other financial details with unknown persons.
PTA further cautioned users against clicking on suspicious links, downloading files from unverified sources, or responding to messages demanding immediate payment or urgent action without proper verification.
Emphasising the need for digital awareness, the authority said even a brief moment of caution can help prevent identity theft and financial loss.
It also advised job seekers to verify the authenticity of online job vacancies before submitting applications or sharing personal information.
Reiterating its public safety message, PTA urged citizens to “Think Before You Click – Verify Before You Trust” and encouraged them to use its official platforms and digital assistance services for online safety guidance.
