Kite manufacturers have urged the Punjab government to issue production licenses early for Basant 2027, warning that delays could again cause shortages of kites and strings during the festival.

Representatives of the District Kite Flying Association made the demand at a press conference after a meeting in Allama Iqbal Town. Chairman Khawaja Nadeem Saeed Wain, President Sheikh Saleem and other association members attended.

Wain called for manufacturers to be allowed to start production in September and continue for four to five months. He said the longer production period would help manufacturers build sufficient stocks before Basant.

He said manufacturers faced limited production time before Basant 2026, resulting in difficulties for people trying to buy kites and strings. The association wants the government to avoid a similar shortage next year.

The representatives also called for the renewal of manufacturers’ licenses and urged the government to allow the kite-making business to operate on a permanent basis.

The demand comes after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that Basant 2027 will take place in Lahore from March 12 to 14.

Basant returned to Lahore earlier this year after a long ban, with the provincial government allowing the festival under specific safety and regulatory measures.
