The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reopened the issuance of mining leases after introducing key policy facilitation measures aimed at revitalizing the region’s mineral sector.
According to official notification, the decision follows approval by the AJK cabinet in its 37th meeting held on 28 January 2026. As part of the move, the earlier notification issued on 22 March 2024 has been officially withdrawn, clearing the way for renewed licensing activity.
Authorities said the step is designed to promote export-oriented mining projects, unlock untapped mineral resources, and encourage fresh domestic and foreign investment in the sector.
The revival of mining lease issuance is also expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute to broader economic growth in the region, particularly in resource-rich areas.
Officials described the policy shift as a significant milestone for the mineral sector, aimed at improving ease of doing business and accelerating industrial development in AJK.
