Parliamentary Secretary for Information Technology Sabeen Ghauri struggled to explain what 5G means when questioned in the National Assembly, triggering a light-hearted exchange among lawmakers.
Presiding officer Abdul Qadir Patel asked Ghauri to explain the term. She said it was not coming to her mind at the time but noted that the technology would provide faster internet speeds.
Patel responded with a joke, asking, “Has 4G passed away that 5G has been introduced?”
Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Aseefa Bhutto Zardari also joined the exchange, offering to explain the term to Ghauri.
The exchange took place during a wider discussion about internet connectivity, as lawmakers raised concerns over slow speeds and unreliable services across the country.
Ghauri told the assembly that 5G services had been launched in 24 cities. She said the government was working to stabilize services in those locations before extending coverage to more cities.
