Iran has announced that it is suspending all obligations under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), accusing the United States of failing to honor the agreement and saying Tehran’s priority is now defending the country.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the US had already abandoned its commitments under the Pakistan-mediated accord, prompting Iran to immediately stop implementing its own obligations.
“The US violated and suspended all of its commitments under the Islamabad MoU. We have also suspended our commitments and are no longer implementing them. Our focus is on defending the country,” Gharibabadi said.
He also ruled out any renewed diplomacy with Washington, stating that Iran would never enter negotiations with the United States under any circumstances.
The Islamabad MoU, brokered by Pakistan in June, was aimed at ending hostilities between Iran and the US and creating a path toward a broader peace agreement. However, continued military exchanges between the two sides have pushed the agreement to the brink of collapse.
Iran’s decision effectively places the Pakistan-brokered understanding on hold, further deepening the confrontation between Tehran and Washington.
