The federal government has yet to approve proposed industrial policies for automobiles, batteries, electronics, solar manufacturing, and energy storage, keeping their implementation on hold, according to a document from the Ministry of Industries and Production.

The document states that work on implementing the proposed policies has not started because their approval by the competent forum is still pending. The policy frameworks are intended to provide a direction for the development of key manufacturing sectors, support industrial growth and strengthen domestic production.

The Engineering Development Board (EDB), an attached department of the Ministry of Industries and Production, was tasked with preparing the initial policy drafts. The board developed the proposals after consultations with stakeholders from the relevant industrial and technology sectors.

The ministry and the EDB conducted consultations with industry associations, manufacturers, investors, technology experts and other stakeholders during the policy formulation process. Several meetings were held to collect recommendations, assess industry requirements and build consensus on the proposed measures.

Once approved, the EDB will be responsible for overseeing implementation, monitoring progress and periodically reviewing the policies. Targets covering domestic manufacturing, exports, technology transfer, employment generation and import substitution are still being evaluated.

The ministry said these measurable targets, along with other details of the policy frameworks, will be disclosed after the respective policies receive formal approval.
