The government has ended fuel subsidies previously provided to motorcyclists, public transport operators, freight transport services, and small farmers.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the National Steering Committee on fuel subsidies, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

An official statement said the committee approved discontinuation of the subsidy scheme across all categories, including motorcycles, rickshaws, small vehicles, public transport, goods transport, and agricultural users.

The statement added that the subsidy programme had been implemented across all provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the committee, the decision was taken in light of a significant decline in global fuel prices, with savings already passed on to consumers through lower market rates. It said the Prime Minister had endorsed the move to wind up the subsidy framework.

Under the now-terminated scheme, motorcyclists, rickshaws, and owners of small vehicles (up to 800cc) were receiving Rs. 50–100 per litre support. Public transport and freight operators were getting monthly assistance ranging from Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 100,000 to help stabilize fares. Small farmers were also receiving a diesel subsidy of around Rs. 100 per litre.
