The government on Wednesday reviewed a set of tax enforcement measures for the upcoming federal budget, with a focus on curbing tax evasion and improving revenue collection through greater use of technology.
The proposals were discussed during a special meeting on tax enforcement measures chaired by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema.
According to an official statement from the Economic Affairs Division, Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Rashid Langrial gave a detailed briefing on various measures being considered for the budget 2026-27 to address under-reporting, non-reporting, under-invoicing, tax evasion, and smuggling.
The proposed measures aim to improve transparency and documentation through digital tools while strengthening the overall enforcement framework.
Among the key initiatives discussed were the introduction of digital monitoring systems and artificial intelligence-based tools to detect false information in tax returns, improve monitoring of under-reporting, and curb tax evasion.
Participants also reviewed a proposal to introduce an e-auction system for goods confiscated by customs authorities in order to improve transparency and efficiency in the disposal process.
During the meeting, Cheema said the government fully supports a tax system with minimal human interaction. Participants agreed that the proposed reforms should help improve tax enforcement while maintaining a business-friendly environment and supporting economic growth.
