The government, in collaboration with the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues (AGPR), has launched an e-Pension Portal to digitize pension services for government employees and reduce the time and effort involved in processing retirement cases.

The new system aims to process pension cases in days instead of months, allowing employees and pensioners to track their cases online without repeatedly visiting government offices.

Pension payments can also be transferred directly to commercial bank accounts instead of being restricted to designated National Bank branches.

The portal also provides SMS alerts to registered mobile numbers when a pension is released or a deduction is made. Employees approaching retirement can have their data uploaded to the system through their respective departments before retirement.

The government has also introduced biometric verification for pensioners. Instead of submitting a Life Certificate at a bank twice a year, pensioners can complete verification through fingerprint authentication at a bank branch or a biometric-enabled ATM every six months.

The government is also working on mobile applications that may allow pensioners to complete verification from home using a mobile phone camera for facial or fingerprint verification. If the required biometric verification is not completed within the specified period, the pension account may be temporarily blocked and restored after successful verification.

To register for the online pension system, an employee must have their data uploaded to the portal by their department. The required information includes a Computerized National Identity Card, personal number and active mobile phone number.

Once the data entry process is completed, the employee receives a unique Pension ID that can be used to access pension-related services and track the progress of their case.
