Pakistan’s federal government debt climbed to a record Rs. 83.642 trillion in June 2026, marking a 7.4 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The debt stock also grew 2.1 percent on a monthly basis, rising from Rs. 81.955 trillion recorded in May 2026.
On an annual basis, the increase translates into an average addition of around Rs. 183,000 every second, or approximately Rs. 15.8 billion each day, compared with the debt level in June 2025.

Domestic borrowing continued to account for the largest share of the government’s liabilities. Central government domestic debt stood at Rs. 59.441 trillion in June 2026, up 9.1 percent from the same month last year.
Within domestic debt, the stock of long-term public debt expanded from Rs. 45.653 trillion to Rs. 48.446 trillion over the past year. Meanwhile, short-term debt increased even more sharply, rising from Rs. 8.756 trillion to Rs. 10.928 trillion during the same period.
