The federal government has announced major tariff reductions at Gwadar Port in a move aimed at increasing international transit traffic and strengthening the port’s role as a regional logistics hub.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said berthing charges for container vessels have been reduced by 25 percent, while port charges on international transshipment containers have been cut by 40 percent.

He said port charges on transit container cargo have also been reduced by up to 31 percent. In addition, the government has introduced one month of free storage for general cargo, replacing the previous facility of five free days.

The minister said vessels carrying transit and transshipment cargo would receive substantial operational relief under the revised tariff structure. He added that Gwadar Port is now offering record incentives compared to other ports in the country as part of the government’s broader plan to transform it into a major regional trade and logistics center.

According to Chaudhry, the revised tariff regime is expected to reduce operating costs for shipping lines, increase cargo handling activity, and support broader economic activity in the surrounding region.

Gwadar Port Chairman Noor ul Haq Baloch said the tariff cuts would help promote maritime trade and generate employment opportunities in Balochistan.

He said the new tariff structure is expected to attract greater shipping activity and commercial business to the port in the coming months.
