The government has called an emergency meeting with petrol pump owners after they refused to implement the Rs. 100 per litre petrol relief scheme.
The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has raised objections to the government’s relief package, particularly over how dealers will receive reimbursement for the subsidy.
The Petroleum Division has called the meeting for September 17 to discuss the dealers’ concerns and explain the mechanism for reimbursing the subsidy.
The government had planned to provide Rs. 100 per litre relief on petrol to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Chingchi rickshaws, and cars with engines up to 800cc.
The scheme was scheduled to begin nationwide on September 17. However, petrol dealers have refused to sell fuel under the scheme until their concerns are resolved.
PPDA representatives have questioned how the subsidy will be paid to dealers and whether the proposed system can be implemented smoothly at petrol stations.
They have also raised concerns about verifying eligible consumers and preventing misuse of the scheme.
The emergency meeting is expected to focus on the subsidy payment mechanism and other issues raised by the dealers, with the government seeking to clear the way for implementation of the relief package.
