The ECC has approved a national gemstone development policy aimed at unlocking Pakistan’s untapped mineral potential and boosting exports through formalization and value addition in the sector.

The policy, titled National Policy to Realize Pakistan’s Gemstone Potential 2026–2030, focuses on modern mining practices, improved regulation, and expanding regional development opportunities, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

In a parallel decision, the committee also approved the restructuring of the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to improve trade efficiency and industrial competitiveness. The plan includes in-principle approval for divesting 30% government shareholding and transferring management control to the National Logistics Corporation (NLC).

Officials said both measures are intended to attract investment, strengthen exports, and improve performance in underutilized sectors of the economy.
