The federal government has announced a fresh cut in petroleum product prices on the third day of Eid, describing it as relief for the public.

According to an official notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, petrol and high-speed diesel prices have been reduced by Rs. 22.22 per litre.

After the revision, petrol now costs Rs. 381.56 per litre, down from Rs. 403.78, while diesel has dropped to Rs. 380.56 per litre from Rs. 402.78.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to pass on available fiscal space to the public. He added that providing relief to citizens remains a key priority of his government.

Officials noted that this reduction follows a previous round of price cuts last week, as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize fuel costs.

The government said it has continued to support transporters, motorcyclists, rickshaw operators, and goods carriers through targeted fuel-related relief measures.

It was further stated that despite global energy volatility, Pakistan has managed to maintain fuel availability without major disruptions, supported by timely policy interventions.

Authorities also claimed that during earlier phases of the international oil price surge, the government absorbed significant subsidy costs to prevent sharper increases in domestic fuel prices, in some cases providing relief equivalent to over Rs. 130 per litre.

The latest price reduction is expected to ease transport costs and contribute to moderating inflationary pressure in the broader economy.
