Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a special petrol relief scheme to ease the impact of rising fuel prices on motorcycle, rickshaw, Qingqi and small car users.

Under the scheme, eligible users will receive Rs. 100 per litre relief on a fixed monthly quantity of petrol.

Motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi users will get the relief on up to 20 litres of petrol each month, providing a maximum benefit of Rs. 2,000 per month.

Owners of cars with engines up to 800cc will receive the same Rs. 100 per litre relief on up to 30 litres of petrol, giving them maximum monthly relief of Rs. 3,000.

The government said the scheme was introduced after the recent rise in global oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Registration for the relief program has started. Details of the registration process will be communicated through a public awareness campaign.

The scheme will begin in Islamabad from the night between Monday and Tuesday and will be extended across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, from the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

The relief is aimed at reducing the fuel burden on people who mainly use motorcycles, three-wheelers and small cars for daily travel.
