Pakistan’s nationwide goods transport strike has entered its seventh day, with the ongoing wheel-jam protest causing an estimated Rs. 50 billion loss to the country’s economy, according to transporters’ chairman Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate.

Chaudhry said the strike was continuing on Independence Day, while transporters remained firm on their demands.

He said the demands were legal and constitutional and urged the government to accept them and take practical measures to resolve the dispute.

Chaudhry said government officials were negotiating with the transporters, but no concrete solution had emerged so far.

He added that transporters would not end the strike based only on assurances, calling for practical steps to address their concerns.

Chaudhry said the wheel-jam strike would continue until the government accepted the demands and implemented the required measures.

He also expressed hope for Pakistan’s progress, prosperity and economic strength on Independence Day.

The nationwide strike has disrupted the movement of goods for seven consecutive days, while transporters have put the resulting economic loss at around Rs. 50 billion.
