The government has extended its ongoing austerity measures until June 30, keeping in place restrictions aimed at reducing public sector spending.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the extension following recommendations from a special committee on cost control, according to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

Under the extended measures, the 50 percent cut in fuel usage for official government vehicles will remain effective until June 30.

The directive requiring 60 percent of government vehicles to remain grounded has also been extended for the same period.

In addition, the ban on foreign trips for government officials and officers will continue to stay in force until June 30.

Officials said the decision is part of broader efforts to maintain fiscal discipline and reduce unnecessary government expenditure.
