Field Marshal Asim Munir held a high-level meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, where both sides discussed expanding Pakistan-Turkiye defence cooperation, strengthening collaboration in the defence industry, regional security, and the evolving situation in the Middle East.
According to the Turkish Presidency, the meeting took place at Ankara Airport before President Erdogan departed for an official visit to Qatar. The closed-door talks were also attended by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Chief of the General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalın.
While neither side released details of the discussions, diplomatic and defence sources said the meeting focused on enhancing strategic cooperation, increasing defence industry collaboration, addressing regional security challenges, and exchanging views on the latest developments in the Middle East.
The meeting comes as Pakistan and Turkiye continue to strengthen their long-standing defence partnership through joint military exercises, defence production, drone technology, naval projects, and military training.
A day earlier, Field Marshal Asim Munir met Turkish Chief of the General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu and was awarded one of Turkiye’s highest military honours. During that meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding military ties, defence cooperation, and professional collaboration.
Observers say the latest engagement reflects the shared commitment of Islamabad and Ankara to deepen their strategic partnership while promoting regional peace, stability, and closer defence cooperation.
