The federal government is considering postponing the presentation of the upcoming budget for fiscal year 2026–27 from June 10 to June 12, as consultations on key arrangements are still in progress.
Official sources say a final decision on the revised date is expected within a day or two.
Speaking informally to journalists in Parliament, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal confirmed that several important elements of the budget are still under final review. He said discussions are ongoing and time constraints remain tight, especially with the upcoming month of Muharram also being taken into account. He added that while efforts are underway to finalize arrangements, no definitive decision on the date shift has been made yet.
Ahsan Iqbal also noted that negotiations between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) have been concluded, while an understanding has been reached with coalition partners over development spending priorities.
He stated that the federal government intends to increase development allocations for smaller provinces in the next fiscal year. Under the proposed distribution, Balochistan is expected to receive the largest share, followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Punjab will receive the lowest allocation.
Reported figures show that Rs265 billion is planned for Balochistan, Rs195 billion for Sindh, Rs98 billion for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Rs72 billion for Punjab. An additional Rs150 billion has been allocated for Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He further added that the Sukkur–Hyderabad motorway project is set to be launched this year, while funding for the K-IV water supply scheme will also be included in the upcoming federal budget.
