The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a nationwide data collection drive to create a detailed database of edible oil and ghee manufacturers as it prepares to introduce electronic production monitoring in the sector.

In a directive issued to all Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue, the tax authority has instructed regional offices to identify and record all edible oil and ghee production facilities within their areas, including fully operational, temporarily closed, and inactive units.

The FBR said the database will help establish an effective framework for implementing an electronic monitoring system aimed at improving oversight of production activities.

Tax authorities have been asked to collect key details of each facility, including product categories, packaging sizes, number of filling lines, installed production capacity, and whether refined oil is supplied in bulk or packaged for sale.

The FBR has also directed officials to ensure that no manufacturing or packaging unit is excluded from the exercise. The collected information must be verified through available records and field inspections.

Chief Commissioners have been instructed to submit the consolidated data to the FBR in Excel format by July 31, 2026, with the exercise being treated as a priority assignment.
