The Directorate General of Customs Valuation, Karachi, has increased customs values for the import of Calcium Carbide from China through a new valuation ruling aimed at updating duty and tax assessments.

The directorate issued Valuation Ruling No. 2083 of 2026 after reviewing international market prices, import trends, and valuation data related to the industrial chemical.

Officials said the previous customs values were fixed under Valuation Ruling No. 1824 of 2023 issued under Section 25A of the Customs Act, 1969. The earlier ruling had remained in effect for a considerable period and required revision due to changing global prices and market conditions.

Stakeholders also submitted multiple representations requesting a fresh assessment of customs values in line with prevailing international rates and current import patterns.

Calcium Carbide is widely used in the production of acetylene gas and various industrial sectors, including welding, steel processing, and chemical manufacturing.

Customs authorities conducted a fresh valuation exercise and held meetings with importers and relevant stakeholders, who were asked to provide supporting documents and market data.

The directorate examined import records, including declared values, assessed values, country of origin, quantities, product descriptions, and transaction periods. Officials found variations in declared import prices but identified sufficient comparable data for re-determination of customs values.

After reviewing stakeholder submissions and available import evidence, the customs values of Calcium Carbide were re-fixed under Section 25(6) of the Customs Act, 1969.

The revised valuation will now be used for the assessment of duties and taxes on Calcium Carbide imports.
