With just two days left until the September 30 deadline, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) must extend the Tax Year 2026 income tax filing deadline as taxpayers have faced repeated delays and technical problems with the IRIS portal.
The FBR’s current deadline for individuals and associations of persons is September 30.

The Tax Year 2026 return became available on IRIS on July 27, according to the Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA). The final return form was officially notified on September 2 through S.R.O. 1495(I)/2026, adding four new sections.
Taxpayers have also faced slowdowns, glitches and problems while submitting returns. PTBA said the IRIS system also failed to properly accept returns over the weekend.
The Pakistan Tax Bar Association has asked FBR to extend the deadline to December 3, 2026. The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has sought an extension to October 31, while the Pakistan Tax Advisers Association has requested time until November 30.
FBR’s official filing schedule still shows September 30 as the deadline as of September 28.
An early decision would give taxpayers and accountants enough time to complete and submit their returns instead of waiting for a last-minute extension announcement.
