The federal government has increased the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs. 1.39 per liter from August 12, even though the ex-refinery price declined, with the rise driven entirely by a higher petroleum levy.
The new HSD price has been fixed at Rs. 382.25 per liter, up from Rs. 380.86 previously.
Although the ex-refinery price fell by Rs. 0.61 per liter to Rs. 279.83 from Rs. 280.44, the reduction was more than offset by a Rs. 2 per liter increase in the petroleum levy.
Following the revision, the petroleum levy on diesel has been raised to Rs. 76.28 per liter, compared with Rs. 74.28 earlier.
Other components of the diesel pricing formula remained unchanged. The dealer margin continues at Rs. 8.64 per liter, while the oil marketing company (OMC) margin remains Rs. 7.87 per liter. The Inland Freight Equalization Margin (IFEM) also stays unchanged at Rs. 4.63 per liter.
With the latest increase, diesel is now selling at nearly 40 percent above its level of Rs. 272.99 per liter recorded on August 16, 2025, reflecting the sharp rise in fuel costs over the past year.
