Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), has signed an agreement with Canada-based Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. to introduce advanced technology aimed at improving output from heavy crude oil fields.

Under the agreement, OGDC will deploy Synergetic’s Passive Energy Tool technology to enhance production from high-viscosity crude oil wells. The technology is designed to improve oil flow, reduce well maintenance requirements, minimize production downtime, lower operating expenses, and reduce reliance on production chemicals.

OGDC said the initiative is part of its efforts to improve recovery from challenging reservoirs and enhance domestic oil production.

The company is Pakistan’s largest exploration and production firm, with the country’s biggest exploration acreage and one of the largest oil and gas reserve portfolios. OGDC currently produces around 166,497 barrels of oil equivalent per day, contributing approximately 49% of Pakistan’s local crude oil production, 28% of natural gas output, and 34% of LPG production.

OGDC operates several major fields, including Qadirpur, Nashpa, Mela, KPD-TAY, and Bettani, while continuing exploration activities across Pakistan.

Earlier this year, the company announced an oil and gas discovery at the Baragzai X-01 exploratory well in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistan also signed multiple exploration agreements in late 2025 covering offshore and onshore oil and gas blocks as part of efforts to expand domestic energy supplies.
