The toll tax rates for the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2) have been increased by 10 percent, effective from 26 August 2024. This adjustment affects both standard and commercial vehicles traveling along this major route.
For standard vehicles, the toll has risen by Rs. 110, bringing the total cost for a journey from Lahore to Islamabad to Rs. 1,210, up from the previous Rs 1100. Commercial vehicles, including vans, trailers, and trucks, face a more substantial increase, with tolls rising by up to Rs. 600. Specifically, the toll for a van is now Rs. 2,030, while a coaster will pay Rs. 2,840, up from Rs. 2,240.
The new rates for heavy vehicles have also been announced: buses will now pay Rs. 4,060, trucks Rs. 5,280, and trailers Rs. 6,780.
This increase is part of an annual 10 percent hike stipulated in the contract agreement with M/s Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). The agreement, signed on April 23, 2014, covers the overlay and modernization of the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2) on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis for 20 years, with the toll rate escalation starting from the second operational year.
A spokesperson for the Motorway Authority confirmed that the new toll rates have been implemented across all interchanges on the M2 Motorway.
