The Islamabad district administration has sealed more than 40 petrol nozzles and six petrol pumps after inspections found that motorists were receiving less petrol and diesel than the quantities displayed on the meters.
According to the district administration, inspection teams checked fuel measurements at petrol stations across the capital and took action against outlets found violating prescribed measurement standards.
The authorities sealed the faulty nozzles immediately and closed six petrol pumps involved in short-selling fuel.
During the inspections, officials also recovered electronic devices allegedly used to manipulate petrol pump meters and reduce the quantity of fuel delivered to customers.
Two petrol pumps were sealed after inspectors found these devices being used to alter fuel measurements. Staff members at the two stations were also arrested.
The district administration said inspections would continue at petrol pumps across Islamabad to prevent fuel theft and protect consumers from being overcharged.
Short-selling allows petrol pumps to charge customers for more fuel than they actually dispense. As a result, motorists pay the full amount shown on the meter but receive fewer litres in their vehicles.
The latest action is part of the administration’s efforts to stop fuel measurement fraud in the capital.
