Pakistan’s Prime Minister Fuel Relief Program has registered more than 15.5 million people, while total subsidy payments have reached Rs. 28.6 billion.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the scheme during a meeting in Islamabad and praised Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and her team for developing the system used to monitor registrations, fuel subsidy tokens, and payments.
Officials informed the meeting that 15,519,282 people had registered under the program. Around 15.06 million were motorcycle owners, while approximately 449,000 owned vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
The scheme has issued 63,153,685 fuel subsidy tokens so far, of which 59,445,347 have been redeemed. Total payments had reached Rs. 28.6 billion as of November 4, 2026.
Shehbaz expressed satisfaction with the program’s progress and said simplified registration and payment procedures had helped more eligible people access the subsidy.
Shehbaz Orders Action Against Petrol Pumps
The prime minister directed authorities to cancel the licenses of petrol pumps that refuse to provide designated fuel subsidy facilities to eligible registered consumers.
He also praised IT Secretary Zarar Hashim Khan and the IT team’s work on the program’s monitoring dashboard.
Separate call centers have been established for consumers and petrol pump operators to provide information and resolve complaints.
Shehbaz said the technology-based monitoring system and transparent subsidy mechanism could serve as a model for future public welfare programs.
