JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman took a dig at Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in the National Assembly on Wednesday, questioning why Pakistan’s defence minister was sitting in Parliament while defence-related talks were taking place in Iran.
“Khawaja Asif sahib is also present here. A defence agreement is being made in Iran, and the defence minister is sitting here,” Fazlur Rehman said.
He then used Asif’s own famous words against him: “Koi sharam hoti hai, koi haya hoti hai” (Have some shame, have some decency).
The remark drew laughter in the House. A video of the exchange, shared by JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza, has since gained traction on social media.
Why Fazlur Rehman Mentioned Iran
Fazlur Rehman was referring to high-level talks held in Tehran on Monday, where Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials.
The three officials represented the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, a military pact signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye in August.
It was the first meeting between representatives of the agreement and Iranian leaders. Discussions focused on regional security and efforts to prevent further military escalation.
A day later, Khawaja Asif said Pakistan would defend Saudi Arabia with full force under the agreement.
Khawaja Asif’s Famous Line Used Against Him
“Koi sharam hoti hai, koi haya hoti hai” is a widely recognised phrase in Pakistani politics. Asif previously used the line in the National Assembly while criticising Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers.
The remark later became popular on social media and was frequently used in political memes.
Fazlur Rehman’s decision to use the same words against Asif, while the defence minister was present in the House, added another twist to the exchange.
During the same speech, the JUI-F chief also urged the government and opposition to hold talks and agree on a new Charter of Democracy.
