The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reported recovering government assets worth Rs. 14.6 trillion in 2026 so far and warned of action against alleged irregularities in Pakistan’s power sector.
According to NAB’s third-quarter performance report released Monday, the bureau recovered assets worth Rs. 9.18 trillion between July and September, bringing total recoveries since March 2023 to Rs. 26.1 trillion.
The recovered assets include 235,622 kanals of Pakistan Railways land valued at Rs. 6.78 trillion and 866,299 acres of land belonging to various provincial departments, worth an estimated Rs. 2.395 trillion.
Separately, NAB Chairman Nazir Ahmed said the bureau had initiated cases at the federal level involving the power sector and was preparing to pursue alleged wrongdoing involving power plants.
He described the planned action as a major undertaking, saying NAB was preparing to take on influential interests. He also said the bureau would not negotiate further on tariffs and had completed preparatory work on power-sector cases.
NAB has not publicly identified the power plants under scrutiny or disclosed the specific allegations involved in the planned action.
