National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman has warned that people involved in wrongdoing will face accountability regardless of how much time has passed or whether they leave Pakistan.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, the chairman said crimes would not be overlooked with the passage of time and that those responsible would not be allowed to evade accountability by moving abroad.
He said NAB was focusing on recovering misappropriated money instead of simply increasing court references and arrests.
The chairman said the bureau was preparing to investigate alleged irregularities in the power sector, mines and minerals, and auqaf departments. He described the planned action in the power sector as a major operation, saying NAB was preparing to take on influential interests.
NAB officials said a committee had also been established to address complaints from investors who believe they lack adequate protection.
The chairman also called for lowering the Rs. 500 million threshold for NAB action, saying the bureau’s authority should be extended to cover more cases.
