Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has highlighted four areas of progress in Pakistan’s economy: improving government finances, a stronger external position, higher foreign exchange reserves and upgrades to the country’s credit ratings. He also pointed to Pakistan’s renewed access to international capital markets.

Aurangzeb made the remarks during a meeting with institutional investors hosted by Jefferies International in Bangkok, on the sidelines of the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026. Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal and State Bank of Pakistan Governor Jameel Ahmad also attended the session.

The finance minister said Pakistan now needs to preserve economic stability and build a more sustainable, export-driven economy through continued reforms.

The meeting also covered progress under the IMF programme, debt management and options for raising financing. These included Sukuk, additional Panda bond issuance and tokenization.

Aurangzeb discussed potential privatization opportunities and stressed the need to increase business-to-business trade and investment.

On tax reforms, he highlighted efforts to bring more people and businesses into the tax system, implement agricultural income tax and improve digital enforcement. Coordination between federal and provincial governments on fiscal targets was also discussed.

Investors raised questions about regional geopolitical risks, energy security and LNG commitments. The discussions also covered Pakistan’s economic ties with the United States and Saudi Arabia.

Aurangzeb concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to continuing reforms and improving investor confidence.
