Petrol prices in Pakistan have climbed by Rs. 145.13 per litre since the beginning of 2026, while high speed diesel has become Rs. 139.16 per litre more expensive, increasing costs for consumers and businesses.
Petrol was selling at Rs. 253.17 per litre at the start of the year, compared with Rs. 398.30 on October 10. Diesel prices also rose from Rs. 257.08 to Rs. 396.24 per litre over the same period.
Fuel prices have changed frequently since the government introduced daily price adjustments linked to international oil markets on July 21, 2026. From that date until October 10, petrol prices were increased 35 times and reduced 22 times. Diesel prices went up 34 times and were cut 23 times.
Both fuels recorded even higher prices earlier in the year. Petrol reached Rs. 458.41 per litre on April 3, while diesel peaked at Rs. 520.35 per litre on the same date.
Meanwhile, the government collected approximately Rs. 1.342 trillion through the petroleum levy between July 2025 and April 2026. Collections had stood at around Rs. 1.205 trillion through March 2026.
The figures cover the stated periods of fiscal year 2025-26 rather than the 2026 calendar year alone. For fiscal year 2026-27, the government has set a petroleum levy collection target of approximately Rs. 1.676 trillion.
