The KSE-100 Index fell 1,964 points on Monday as investors sold shares amid political uncertainty following the federal government’s decision to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The benchmark index closed at 165,124, down 1.18 percent, after falling 1,920 points during intraday trading.
The decline came after President Asif Ali Zardari approved the federal cabinet’s recommendation to impose an emergency in the province on Sunday. The development unsettled investors, while the absence of positive market triggers added to selling pressure.
Major stocks led the decline, with United Bank Limited (UBL), Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC), Habib Bank Limited (HBL), Meezan Bank (MEBL), and Lucky Cement (LUCK) collectively pulling around 645 points off the index.
Trading volume stood at approximately 363 million shares, while the total traded value reached around Rs. 14.5 billion.
TREET was the most actively traded stock, with nearly 27 million shares changing hands during the session.
