Pakistan’s banking sector continued to see strong deposit growth in August, with total deposits increasing by around Rs. 190 billion during the month.
According to Topline Research, deposits held by banks increased 13.9 percent year-on-year and 0.5 percent month-on-month in August 2026.
Total deposits reached around Rs. 39.24 trillion in August, compared with Rs. 39.05 trillion in July. This means banks added roughly Rs. 190 billion in deposits during the month, averaging about Rs. 6.1 billion per day.
The latest data shows that deposits have continued to expand despite the monthly increase being relatively modest compared with the year-on-year growth.
Bank advances also increased, rising 10.7 percent year-on-year and 0.4 percent month-on-month during August, according to Topline Research.
Investments recorded stronger monthly growth, increasing 13.4 percent year-on-year and 0.9 percent month-on-month.
The Investment-to-Deposit Ratio (IDR) stood at 104.9 percent in August, up from 104.6 percent in July.
Topline Research expects bank deposits to grow between 10 percent and 15 percent during 2026.
The latest State Bank of Pakistan data also shows total deposits of scheduled banks at around Rs. 39.24 trillion in August, while total investments stood at Rs. 41.18 trillion.
