Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing a war-like security situation and stressed that counterterrorism efforts cannot be turned into a political issue.
According to Naqvi, the KP government had agreed to formalize several security commitments through a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours.
The proposed plan included reviewing the Police Act 2026 in view of the province’s security challenges and keeping security-related matters free from political interference.
The commitments also called for preventing terrorist groups from operating or establishing safe havens in KP, along with a clear condemnation of the TTP, TTA and other militant organizations.
The provincial government had also agreed to support the federal policy on Afghan refugees, including their repatriation and the dismantling of Afghan camps in KP. Another commitment involved maintaining no contact with the interim Afghan government.
The agreement further covered increased funding for police and counterterrorism operations, greater provincial responsibility for security measures, stronger coordination with the armed forces, and implementation of the National Action Plan.
Naqvi said the KP government withdrew from these commitments during the final stage of negotiations last night.
He said security should not be politicized at a time when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is at war.
