The government is preparing an anti-fraud awareness campaign after scammers began using the Prime Minister’s special petrol relief scheme to target the public, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima said.

The Ministry of IT will educate citizens about fraudulent calls and messages being circulated in the name of the cheap petrol relief scheme.

Shaza Fatima advised people not to trust calls or messages claiming to offer benefits or asking for information in connection with the scheme.

She said the government would also release the details of people registered for the Prime Minister’s petrol relief scheme today.

The minister said authorities were addressing problems reported during registration. She explained that applications can fail if applicants select the wrong province or enter their date of birth in the incorrect format.

Applicants should select the province where their vehicle is registered when completing the registration process, she added.

The government introduced the special petrol relief scheme to provide financial support to eligible citizens following the recent increase in fuel prices.
